Biography

Bawantha Dharmapala began his rugby journey at the young age of 5, practicing under the guidance of his father, who remains his greatest inspiration. His dedication to the sport saw him play for five years in the College 1st XV team, where he honed his skills and developed a deep love for the game.

Bawantha’s talent and hard work earned him a place at Kandy Sports Club, where he played under the captaincy of rugby legends Nigel Ratwatte and Damith Dissanayake. Among his proudest achievements are being part of the 2021 Schools Rugby 7s Championship team and contributing to back-to-back club rugby championships in 2022 and 2023. His journey is a testament to his passion, perseverance, and relentless pursuit of excellence on the field.
